GREENSBORO, N.C. – Although he has not yet officially committed to the tournament through the PGA TOUR, U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover said today that he will play the Wyndham Championship in August.
Speaking on a conference call with reporters earlier today, Glover said that he considers the Wyndham Championship a “home game” and that he definitely plans to play in the tournament this year. The Clemson University alumnus lives in Greenville, S.C. and has family in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina.
“This news is obviously huge for the Wyndham Championship,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “We have always had a great relationship with Lucas, and we are excited he plans to come back to Sedgefield Country Club in August. Winning the U.S. Open on Monday was a life-changing experience for Lucas; the Wyndham Championship will be the first time a lot of us in the Carolinas will be able to see him play and congratulate him in person. I’m sure we’ll have a sea of Clemson orange walking around Sedgefield. We’re glad he’s coming back.”
Glover has played in the last five Wyndham Championships. His best finish came in 2006 when he finished tied for sixth place; last year, he finished tied for 20th. He has won $319,424 in his five previous appearances.
