GREENSBORO, N.C. – (Aug. 19, 2016) – Through mostly sunny skies, the second round proved to be one for the ages at the 2016 Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. Si Woo Kim, on the strength of setting a new tournament record, leads at -12 for the tournament. He is two strokes ahead of four players at -10; Lucas Glover, Kevin Na, Jim Furyk and Hideki Matsuyama.
Si Woo Kim -12 (128) carded a tournament record 60. Starting on the back, Kim shot 29, posted six birdies through nine holes, including a birdie on #18, the hardest hole thru two rounds. He followed that with two birdies on the front nine, and an eagle on #5, to finish -10 for the day.
Kim is looking for his first PGA TOUR win. He finished 2nd at the Barbasol Championship earlier this year. As an amateur, he won the Korean Junior Championship four years in a row.
The previous record of 61 for low round was held by four players; Tim Herron, Arjun Atwal, Kevin Na and Carl Pettersson. Of the four to post that score, only Atwal and Pettersson went on to win the Wyndham Championship.
Kim was almost tied for his new record by Lucas Glover, -10 (130), who fired a second round 61 after missing a two-foot putt on #18. That was the only bogey of the day for Glover to go with 10 birdies. The 2009 U.S. Open champion, he is looking for his fourth career PGA TOUR win. He finished 8th at the Wells Fargo Championship earlier this year.
First round co-leader Kevin Na, -10 (130), shot a second round 67. He posted four birdies and one eagle on #15, with three bogeys. He is looking for his second career PGA TOUR win, the first being the 2011 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Jim Furyk, -10 (130), shot a second round 64. He started with two birdies and an eagle in five holes before bogeys on #7 and #9 dropped him back. He recovered with four straight birdies on Holes 13-16. This is his 13th appearance at the Wyndham, but just the second since 2004. In 2011, he finished T9.
Hideki Matsuyama, -10 (130), shot a second round 64. After one birdie on the front, he posted five on the back while going bogey-free on the round. He is a two-time winner on the PGA TOUR, most recently the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open. He has played at Sedgefield the past three years, missing the cut the last two after a 15th place finish in 2013.
First round co-leader Rafa Cabrera Bello, -9 (131), carded a second round 68. He recorded two birdies, two bogeys and an eagle on #15 to finish three back of the leader. Cabrera Bello has four international victories, most recently in 2012 at the Dubai Desert Classic. He is looking for his first PGA Tour win.
