GREENSBORO, N.C. – World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els and former Wyndham Championship winner Brandt Snedeker will play this year’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 76th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 17-23, 2015 at Sedgefield Country Club.
Els is a four-time major winner having won the U.S. Open in 1994 and ’97 and the Open Championship in 2002 and ’12; he has 19 PGA TOUR wins and 47 international wins. He has played in eight President’s Cup matches, nine Dunhill Cup matches and five World Cup matches. A native of South Africa, Els is 116th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 181st in the FedExCup point standings. He is a member of the 2011 World Golf Hall of Fame class. Els will make his fifth Wyndham Championship appearance; his best finish here came in 1997 when he finished tied for seventh.
Snedeker, who won the first tournament called the Wyndham Championship and was named 2007 PGA TOUR rookie of the year, is having a strong season after winning the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and recording a runner-up finish at the Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas earlier this year. The 2012 FedExCup champion has seven PGA TOUR wins and nine overall. He is currently 11th in the FedExCup point standings and 29th in the Official World Golf Rankings. Snedeker will be making his ninth-consecutive Wyndham Championship appearance; in addition to his 2007 win, he recorded top-eight finishes here in 2009, ’10 and ‘14.
“Anytime we can announce a four-time Major winner and World Golf Hall of Famer with a former champion that’s also a FedExCup champion, it’s a great day for the Wyndham Championship,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “Ernie has become kind of a regular at the Wyndham, and we’re ecstatic that he’s joining us again this year. Brandt won the first Wyndham Championship so he’s special to a lot of Piedmont Triad people. These two players are big-time additions to our field.”
