WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP INTRODUCES FINS UP 5K FUN RUN

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wyndham Championship is proud to introduce the inaugural Fins Up 5K Fun Run – the unofficial tournament-week kickoff, the tournament announced today. The 85th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug, 7-11, 2024 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, the Fins Up 5K Fun Run at the Wyndham Championship is an informal 3.1-mile run-walk through the Sedgefield neighborhood and tournament-ready golf course finishing at the tournament’s Margaritaville tent at Sedgefield Country Club. Runners/walkers will be entered into a raffle to win a stay at a Margaritaville Vacation Club property courtesy of Travel + Leisure, Co.

The new event will kick off Wyndham Championship tournament week while paying tribute to the tournament’s longstanding Margaritaville relationship with proceeds benefitting Singing for Change; it was founded by Jimmy Buffett in 1995 to fund organizations that inspire personal growth, community integration and the enhanced awareness that collectively, people can bring about positive change. The tournament’s relationship with Margaritaville began in 2013 when Margaritaville at the Wyndham debuted at the fan-favorite PGA TOUR event. The venue features live music and a fun atmosphere. The setting, tropical-themed beverages and a diverse menu all resemble a tropical resort atmosphere and a vacation from everyday life.

“Our relationship with Margaritaville is a big deal for our PGA TOUR event,” Executive Director Mark Brazil said. “This new event not only kicks off tournament week but also contributes to our tropical-vacation theme, and we look forward to welcoming some new fans to the tournament.

“The Wyndham Championship was named the PGA TOUR’s most fan-friendly tournament three times, and Margaritaville is one of the reasons. Some people come to the tournament just to go to Margaritaville – they watch the golf tournament on the TVs and never leave. We love that. It’s only fitting that the Fins Up 5K finishes with a margarita at our very own Margaritaville tent at the Wyndham Championship – it’s a great way to start the week and keep the party going.”

The Fins Up 5K Fun Run is open to runners/walkers of all ages. All participants will receive one good-any-day Wyndham Championship ticket, a t-shirt and one complimentary drink at the post-event party (non-alcoholic if under 21) which will include live music with a tropical theme.

Participants will also enjoy a Margarita challenge and Margarita Maker Marker, where participants pick up ingredients at each mile marker to make a delicious margarita. (These items cannot be consumed on the premises.) The top-three male and female finishers, as well as the best-dressed runner sporting tropical-themed attire, will win vacation stays courtesy of Club Wyndham.
