LUCAS GLOVER WILL DEFEND HIS WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Last August, Lucas Glover had a win for the ages; next month, he’ll return to the Wyndham Championship to defend his title, the tournament announced today. The 85th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug, 7-11, 2024 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

The 2009 U.S. Open Champion entered the 2023 Wyndham Championship at No. 112 in the FedExCup point standings. In previous years, that standing would have him comfortably inside the top-125 players advancing to the FedExCup playoffs, but new last season, only 70 players made the playoffs, and Glover entered the Wyndham Championship needing to finish tied for second or better to have a chance to make the playoffs.

His fifth PGA TOUR victory at Sedgefield moved him to 49th in the FedExCup point standings and into the playoffs. From there, he would win the first FedExCup Playoffs event the next weekend to move to fourth in points. That second win guaranteed his appearance in the TOUR Championship and made him eligible for the 2024 elevated events. Glover will return to Sedgefield next month to defend his title.

“Lucas Glover is a great friend of the Wyndham Championship, and we are ecstatic that he’ll be with us to defend his title,” Executive Director Mark Brazil said. “Lucas is a class act, and we’ll never forget his magical Wyndham Championship victory last year or his win the following weekend at the first playoff event. I’m sure Lucas is looking forward to defending his title, and I know he’d like nothing more than to repeat as our champion.”

Glover is currently 70th in the FedExCup point standings – 42 places higher than he was entering last year’s tournament. The Clemson University alumnus is also 44th in the Official World Golf Rankings. His best finishes of the season are 11th at the Valspar Championship and tied for 12th at the Charles Schwab Challenge. The 2024 tournament will be Glover’s 20th Wyndham Championship start.

Glover received the Order of the Palmetto from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on April 19, 2024. South Carolina’s highest civilian honor recognizes a lifetime of extraordinary achievement, service and contributions on a national or statewide scale. A passionate Clemson Tigers fan; he was inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 and the South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in May.
