National Volunteer Week Spotlight: Hayden Russ

Hayden is from Winston Salem, N.C., and is joining us as a walking scorer for the second year. Hayden is looking forward to his second tournament, saying, “I came back this year because seeing the tournament be a success as a result of all of the hard work that goes into it is rewarding. Being a part of the walking scorers has been a great chance to watch the world’s best up close as well.”

Hayden will start his third year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined us as a volunteer after a conversation on the golf course. “I was playing in a golf tournament when I met someone who happened to be a member at Sedgefield Country Club. The Wyndham was a few months away, and he mentioned there might be some opportunities to help out. He specifically told me about the possibility of helping out with the walking scoring committee, which immediately intrigued me.

“I’ve grown up playing golf from the age of five, so having the opportunity to walk inside the ropes alongside PGA TOUR players while helping make the tournament run smoothly was a chance I couldn’t pass up.”

His decision to volunteer paid dividends because Hayden spent a round inside the ropes with one of his favorite players. He watched Justin Thomas do everything he could to make the FedExCup Playoffs. Thomas ended up needing one less stroke to make the post-season.

Thanks so much for spending part of your summer with us, Hayden!
