OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNERS UP JUSTIN ROSE, BILLY HORSCHEL JOIN FIELD

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Xander Schauffele won the 2024 Open Championship by two strokes. The two golfers who tied for second, Justin Rose and Billy Horschel, will play next week’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 85th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 8-11, 2024, at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

These players join FedExCup No. 9 Sungjae Im, FedExCup No. 10 Shane Lowry, FedEx Cup No. 15 Akshay Bhatia, FedExCup No. 17 Robert MacIntyre, FedExCup No. 21/world No. 15 Brian Harman, FedExCup No. 24 Davis Thompson, defending champion Lucas Glover along with past champions FedExCup No. 34 J.T. Poston, FedExCup No. 36 Si Woo Kim, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and 2012 FedExCup Champion Brandt Snedeker as well as Wake Forest University alumni FedExCup No. 35 Cameron Young and FedExCup No. 45 Will Zalatoris, Min Woo Lee and Nicolai Hojgaard.

Rose is 11th in the DP World Tour standings, 34th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 52nd in the current FedExCup point standings. While he missed his second Major title after battling all four rounds at the Open Championship, the 2018 FedExCup champion has 11 PGA TOUR wins to his credit including the 2013 U.S. Open in addition to 12 international wins. The six-time Ryder Cupper won the gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, and his most-recent win was the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. His best finishes this season are tied for second at the Open Championship, tied for sixth at the PGA Championship and tied for 11th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. With a good showing in his eighth Wyndham Championship start, Rose could move inside the top-50 in points – a step closer to securing access to next year’s $20 Million signature events.

Horschel was the 54-hole leader at the Open Championship two weeks ago but finished tied for second with Rose. He enters the Wyndham Championship 27th in FedExCup points, 33rd in the Official World Golf Rankings and 15th in the DP World Tour standings. The 2014 FedExCup champion is making his 12th Wyndham Championship start. His best finishes here are second in 2020, fourth last year, tied for sixth in 2019 and tied for fifth in 2016. He won the Corales Puntacana Championship and finished tied for eighth at the PGA Championship earlier this season. An eight-time PGA TOUR winner, he represented the United States on the victorious 2022 Presidents Cup team in Charlotte.

“Both of these guys are in really good form right now,” Executive Director Mark Brazil said. “It’s always nice when a couple of veterans, who are also really good friends of ours, join the field. They both have an opportunity to secure a top-50 finish that not only gets them into the BMW Championship in the FedExCup Playoffs, but it also gets them in the signature events next year. It would not surprise me if both of these guys are in contention next weekend.”
