FEDEXCUP NO. 9 SUNGJAE IM, NO. 14 AKSHAY BHATIA JOIN WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two players, with high FedExCup and Official World Golf Rankings, Sungjae Im and Akshay Bhatia, will play the Wyndham Championship in two weeks, the tournament announced today. The 85th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug, 7-11, 2024 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

These players join defending champion Lucas Glover along with past champions Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker in the field.

Im is a two-time PGA TOUR winner who is currently ninth in FedExCup points and 18th in the Official World Golf Rankings. A native of South Korea, his best finishes this season are tied for third at the Travelers Championship, tied for fourth at the Wells Fargo Championship and the Genesis Scottish Open, and tied for seventh at last week’s Open Championship at Royal Troon. He played for the Presidents Cup international team in 2019, ’22 and ’24 and represented South Korea in the 2020 Olympic Games. Im has three top-10 finishes in five previous Wyndham Championship starts including tied for second in 2022; he finished tied for 14th last year.

Bhatia is a two-time PGA TOUR winner who is currently ranked 14th in FedExCup points and 28th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He earned his second PGA TOUR victory earlier this season when he won a playoff at the Valero Texas Open. More recently, he finished tied for fifth at the Travelers Championship and tied for second at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

A California native, Bhatia’s family moved to Wake Forest, N.C. just outside Raleigh when he was a small child. He was home schooled and played neither high school nor college golf but turned professional at age 17 to chase his dream of playing the PGA TOUR. Bhatia, who made his first two Wyndham Championship starts on a sponsor’s exemption, will make his fourth Wyndham Championship appearance next month.

“Sungjae and Akshay are two of the best and most popular players on the PGA TOUR today,” Executive Director Mark Brazil said. “We are thrilled to have them coming back to Sedgefield in a couple weeks.”
