Colombian Superstar Camilo Villegas, Nicolas Colsaerts, Fredrik Jacobson Join Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Colombian superstar Camilo Villegas, Nicolas Colsaerts and Fredrik Jacobson have joined the field for next week’s Wyndham Championship, it was announced today. The 73rd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 13-19, 2012.

These players join a field that already includes defending champion and 2012 U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson, 2012 Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III, 2011 FedExCup champion Bill Haas, Jason Dufner who is currently third in the FedExCup point standings and eighth in the Official World Golf Rankings, former Wyndham winners Brandt Snedeker, Carl Pettersson and Ryan Moore, Japanese superstar Ryo Ishikawa, Nick Watney as well as former Major winners Charl Schwartzel, Trevor Immelman, David Toms, John Daly, Lucas Glover, Justin Leonard and Angel Cabrera.

The ultra-popular Villegas is making his third Wyndham Championship appearance; he finished tied for ninth last year.  Known for his “Spiderman-esque” low-to-the-ground method of reading putts, Villegas is a three-time PGA TOUR winner, and one of his wins was the 2008 TOUR Championship.  He also has two international wins and played on the international team in the 2009 Presidents Cup Matches and the 2006 and ’11 World Cup Matches.  His popularity in his native Colombia caused Colombian TV to begin broadcasting 30 PGA TOUR events each year.

Colsaerts is 34th in the Official World Golf Rankings, and he is seventh in the current European Tour Race to Dubai standings.  He has four international wins and finished tied for seventh at last month’s Open Championship in England.  He is making his first Wyndham Championship appearance, and he is a native and resident of Belgium.

Jacobson is 41st in the Official World Golf Rankings and 96th in FedExCup points.  Jacobson is making his fifth Wyndham Championship appearance; he recorded his best Wyndham result in 2010 when he finished tied for 12th.  He is a native of Gothenburg, Sweden and lives in Hobe Sound, Fla.

Contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the seventh-oldest event on the PGA TOUR.  Buy one, get one free tickets are available at Piedmont Triad-area Harris Teeter locations, at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office.  The tournament thanks title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, presenting sponsor BB&T and Premier Partners, Cadillac, Harris Teeter, McConnell Golf, Sunbrella®, Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. and VF Corporation for their continued support.  Additional tournament information, including ticket packages and sponsorship information, is available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office at (336) 379-1570.  For more information about Wyndham Worldwide, please visit www.wyndhamworldwide.com.
