Webb Simpson claimed his second win of the season at the rain-delayed RBC Heritage at Hilton Head, S.C. The 2011 Wyndham Championship winner defeated Abraham Ancer by one stroke, Daniel Berger and Tyrell Hatton by two strokes and 2012 Wyndham Championship winner Sergio Garcia and Joaquin Niemann by three strokes. With the win, Simpson jumped five spots to first place in the FedExCup point standings and the Wyndham Rewards Top 10 standings.
“It was a crazy day,” Simpson told CBS Sports after the win. “Honestly, I’m speechless right now. We had that big delay, but we went back out. The TOUR did a good job getting us out there quickly; we only had a 20-minute warm-up. It was a long day on the golf course as well. I didn’t really get it going until 12, and then the putts started going in. I was getting confident – it’s amazing to be standing here right now.”
After playing the 11th hole, Simpson was two under par for the final round at 17 under for the tournament. The 2012 U.S. Open champion birdied 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17 on his way to a 7-under par 64 and his seventh-career PGA TOUR victory. Berger, who won last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, finished tied for third and moved from 11th place in points to seventh in the Wyndham Rewards Top 10. J.T. Poston, the 2019 Wyndham winner, finished tied for 8th place.
Brooks Koepka claimed the $2 Million first-place bonus in the inaugural $10 million Wyndham Rewards Top 10 Bonus last season. The Wyndham Rewards Top 10 not only adds drama to the Wyndham Championship as the final event before the FedExCup Playoffs but also puts an even greater premium on excelling over the course of the FedExCup Regular Season.
The top-10 Regular Season finishers in FedExCup points following the Wyndham Championship – also sponsored by Wyndham Rewards – reap the benefits of the Wyndham Rewards Top 10.
